Aviation News published an article by HP Grolleau on the Rafale and @Bon Plan kindly shared it. There is a summary of the current status of the program, and lots of info on the F4 and F5 standards. A little quick summary:
F4.1:
- certified in 2022, deliveries early 2023
- helmet viewfinder
- new screens, tactile, with a better resolution to display the imagery of the Talios
- new research path / large field at IRST
- updates of radar modes (GMTI and SAR with more resolution) and Spectra (as in each standard in fact)
- AASM 1t
- Scalp RMV (more resistant to GPS jamming and also fired from above)
F4.2:
- certified end of 2024, delivery 2025
- centralized cyber router / server
- thigh tablet to be able to load new apps without touching the aircraft system
- SATCOM
- intrapatrol link which, as I suspected, is not directional, interference resistance and LPI being obtained by the use of CONTACT technos. We are waiting for a NATO standard on directional links in the Ku band to develop it
- Galileo
- new see identification / small field on the OSF, this time in infrared to be able to operate at night, unlike the current TV channel
- updates Spectra / RBE2 (bis repetita) (I think there will probably be TRAGEDAC to do multistatic or DTOA with the intrapatrol link, even if it will not be super high speed, we should start to be able to do some interesting things and this should be enough to synchronize clocks and establish relative positions in 3D precisely)
- propelled stand-in RF jammer ejectable from the countermeasures well
- Ejectable RF jammers (this is a separate project from the powered jammer, it corresponds to the jammer that can be released with small aerodynamic fins that we had seen pass a while ago and whose name escapes me)
F5:
- introduction after 2030
- GaN multi-function side panels, which will be tested in flight before 2025. I think the F4.2 has modifications in the nose to leave volume / power / cooling reserves for the new panels and that's why that we are trying to resell second-hand Rafale, to increase the fleet of compatible aircraft)
- FC / ASW
- ASN4G (even if it's not in the article)
- probably I think directional intrapatrol link, common with the SCAF
