The growing demand for spare parts in the Kingdom has triggered the need for transfer of technology to manufacture them locally, Deputy Minister of Defense Prince Salman bin Sultan said here Tuesday.
The prince was opening a workshop on spare parts industry at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in the presence of Minister of Commerce and Industry Tawfiq Al-Rabiah and KACST President Ibrahim Al-Suwaiyel.
Al-Suwaiyel said the spare parts industry in the Kingdom is so huge that it caters to the military, petrochemical and desalination sectors as well as for production lines in different industries, which need a large volume of spare parts to operate the various facilities.
Recently, the Ministry of Defense signed a cooperation agreement with the KACST with the aim of solidifying efforts of both sides and activating their partnership in a number of scientific fields with a view to building a scientific and technological base to service development in the Kingdom.
Al-Suwaiyel said the agreement aimed to build bridges and integrate efforts between the two sides to accomplish the best results for consolidating their strategic relations in research and development and transfer of technology.
He said the KACST is keen on establishing a national program for the manufacture of advanced materials to contribute effectively to the development of the Kingdom's economy by providing an integrated environment to support the development of materials and related activities.
وقال نائب وزير الدفاع الأمير سلمان بن سلطان هنا اليوم الثلاثاء قد أثار الطلب المتزايد على قطع الغيار في المملكة الحاجة إلى نقل التكنولوجيا إلى صنعها محليا.الأمير و فتح ورشة عمل حول صناعة قطع الغيار في مدينة الملك عبدالعزيز للعلوم والتقنية (KACST ) في حضور وزير التجارة والصناعة توفيق الربيعة و رئيس مدينة الملك عبد العزيز إبراهيم السويل .وقال السويل صناعة قطع الغيار في المملكة ضخمة بحيث يلبي القطاعات العسكرية والبتروكيماويات و تحلية المياه فضلا عن خطوط الإنتاج في الصناعات المختلفة، والتي تحتاج إلى كمية كبيرة من قطع الغيار لتشغيل المرافق المختلفة .في الآونة الأخيرة ، وقعت وزارة الدفاع اتفاقية تعاون مع مدينة الملك عبدالعزيز بهدف ترسيخ جهود الجانبين وتفعيل الشراكة بينهما في عدد من المجالات العلمية بهدف بناء قاعدة علمية وتكنولوجية لخدمة التنمية في المملكة.وقال السويل هذه الاتفاقية تهدف إلى بناء الجسور و توحيد الجهود بين الجانبين لتحقيق أفضل النتائج لتوطيد العلاقات الاستراتيجية بينهما في مجال البحث و التطوير و نقل التكنولوجيا.وقال إن مدينة الملك عبدالعزيز حريصة على وضع برنامج وطني لتصنيع المواد المتقدمة أن تساهم بشكل فعال في تنمية اقتصاد المملكة من خلال توفير بيئة متكاملة لدعم وتطوير المواد و الأنشطة ذات الصلة.
