Hyundai Rotem reports that the K2 Black Panther tank is being exported to Morocco is “groundless”
[비즈니스포스트] In relation to domestic and foreign media reports that Hyundai Rotem is negotiating export of the K2 Black Panther to Morocco, it has taken a position that it is groundless.
In a phone call with the Business Post on the 24th, Hyundai Rotem said, “There have been reports that we are negotiating exports with Morocco regarding the K2 Black Panther, but there is no such fact.”

Tactical Report, a global defense company, reported on the previous day, “It is known that Morocco has plans to start negotiations with Hyundai Rotem to procure the K2 Black Panther.”
Shares of Hyundai Rotem closed at 31,400 won on the 24th, up 17.16% (4,600 won) from the previous day. On this day, Hyundai Rotem stock market rose 2.05% (550 won) from the previous day at 27,350 won, and then increased its rise throughout the day.
It is believed that the share price rise on the day was influenced by media reports that export negotiations are in progress.
However, it is understood that Hyundai Rotem is pursuing a plan to export K2 tanks to Egypt, where there is a high demand for replacement of old tanks.
According to foreign media reports such as Middle East Monitor, Egypt has agreed to cooperate with Korea on the steady introduction of K2 tanks from 2021.
Egypt needs to replace more than 3,000 old tanks, and the K2 tank is considered a strong candidate.
Hyundai Rotem’s K2 tank was developed with domestic technology in 2008. It is equipped with a 120mm smoothbore gun as the main gun, and by applying an automatic loading device, it can be operated by three people, one less than the existing K1 tank.
In addition, the K2 tank, which has been modified to suit the desert climate, is evaluated as being able to secure mobility in the desert terrain of the Middle East by increasing the cooling performance of the power pack (engine + transmission) and applying a high-temperature track.
