Kingdom of Jordan to Purchase Javelin guided missile systems worth $388 million
20:24 GMT, December 2, 2009 defpro.com | The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) recently notified the US Congress today of a possible foreign military sale (FMS) to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan of 1808 Javelin anti-tank guided missiles, 18 fly-to-buy missiles, 162 Javelin command launch units (CLUs) with integrated day/thermal sight and associated parts, equipment, training and logistical support. The sale will be offered as a complete package valued at approximately $388 million (€257.87 million).
According to the DSCA, the agreement would include containers, missile simulation rounds, enhanced basic skills trainer (EPBST), rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries, battery dischargers and chargers, and coolant units, support equipment, spare and repair parts, publications and technical data, U.S. Government and contractor engineering and logistics personnel services, and other related elements of logistics support.
As the DSCA explains in its official press release, the proposed sale will improve Jordan’s capability to meet current and future threats. Jordan will use the enhanced capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defence. The Jordan Armed Forces already have Javelin anti-tank missiles in its inventory.
The prime contractor will be a Javelin joint venture of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. According to the DSCA, there are no offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
