The “Mohammed VI” (701) multi-mission combat frigate of the Royal Moroccan Navy has been recently seen at the French Navy’s Naval base of Brest in dry dock used by the French shipbuilder DCNS. The ship of FREMM (Frégate Européenne Multi-Missions) design is undergoing scheduled maintenance.
Future maintenance of the ship will be carried out in Morocco in specific support facilities currently being built under supervision of DCNS.
The combat frigate was commissioned by Morocco on January 30, 2014 in Brest, France.
The vessel is armed with a single OTO Melara Super Rapid 76/62 artillery mount, EuroTorp MU 90 lightweight torpedoes, MBDA Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missiles and MBDA Aster 30 surface-to-air missiles. For self-protection, the ship feature two Sagem NGDS countermeasure system and two DCNS Contralto-V anti-torpedo system
