DoD contracts DB-110 recon pods for Middle East air forces
The US Department of Defense (DoD) has contracted Collins Aerospace to supply the UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) DB-110 Tactical Reconnaissance Pod (TRP) to three Middle East air forces.
The USD47.6 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract modification, which was announced on 27 February, covers an undisclosed number of pods plus support to Bahrain, Jordan, and Qatar.
The award brings the contract ceiling to USD183.1 million, with work set to be complete by 14 November 2023.
Bahrain is set to field the DB-110 on the Lockheed Martin F-16V Fighting Falcon combat aircraft it has on order, with six pods being approved for sale in September 2017.
An unspecified number of pods for Jordan and Qatar were contracted in March 2018. For Jordan the pod will probably be carried aboard its F-16s, while Qatar's pods will most likely be fielded aboard its yet-to-be delivered F-15QA fighters given that the Eagle has already been cleared to carry the sensor.
