North Korea Upgrading Egyptian Scud Missiles
Egypt is responsible for the first wartime use of Scud missiles during its attack on Israel in the Yom Kippur War. Egypt is now working with North Korea to upgrade its Scud missiles. Much like Egypt’s tanks and jet planes, there really is only one country that could conceivably be a target of all that firepower.
Sitting on the other side of the Middle East, Egypt has no enemies in Africa that it needs a major military force to defend itself against.
Egypt’s brief conflict with Libya was a joke. Its interventions in civil wars in Yemen and Nigeria, the latter in support of a takeover by the Muslim north, certainly didn’t require any especially heavy firepower. There’s only one country that Egypt could conceivably find itself engaging in this kind of war with. And that’s Israel.
Egypt was the first country to use scud missiles. Its scud missile upgrades have the same target that they did in 1973.
China is covertly working with North Koreans to modernize Egypt’s short-range missile systems, raising new concerns among United States intelligence officials about the arms programs of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated government in Egypt.
A group of technicians from China’s premier missile manufacturer that was previously sanctioned by the U.S. government for illicit arms transfers are working in Egypt with North Koreans to modernize Cairo’s Scud missile force.
According to U.S. intelligence officials, reports of the missile technicians from the Beijing-based China Precision Machinery Import-Export Corp. (CPMIEC) are raising new concerns about U.S. plans to sell arms to the government of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi.
The missile activities were detected in connection with Egypt’s Sakr Factory, the main missile production facility that makes Egypt’s Scud-Bs and extended-range Scud Cs.
“Who are they planning to use those ballistic missiles against and what threat does Egypt face that would require ballistic missiles?” the official asked.
Egypt needs those Scud missiles to be able to strike Israeli cities. Since the 70s, Egypt’s defense doctrine relied less on air power than on being able to inflict devastation inside Israel. The Israeli Air Force has easily beaten enemy air power. But Israel has been vulnerable to shelling and to rocket and missile attacks.
As Israel continues to work on its rocket and missile defense programs, North Korea and China are working to test their firepower against Israeli defenses, because they know that Israeli technology has a way of being integrated into the American defense sector and they expect to face it one day in a new Korean War or a conflict with Japan.
Now that Egypt is a Muslim Brotherhood entity and unofficially at war with the West, it is a perfect testbed for Chinese and Nork technology in a new war with Israe
