(Defensa.com) The US President, Barak Obama, and the United States Congress approved the transfer to Taiwan and Mexico 6 frigates Classe Oliver Hazard Perry (OHP) or FFG-7.On under the Act Transfer of Military Vessels, November 2013, Mexico Navy frigates receive "Curts" (FFG-38) and "McClusky" (FFG-41), and Taiwan Navy ships "Taylor" (FFG-50 ), "Gary" (FFG-51), "Carr" (FFG-52) and "Elrod" (FFG-55).
Units that are transferred are still in service in the Navy of the United States, "McClusky" received the now-defunct shipyard Todd Pacific Shipyards Corporation in 1983, the "Taylor" made by the shipyard Bath Iron Works (now General Dynamics Bath Iron Works) in 1984, "Gary" delivered by Pacific Shipyards Corporation in 1984, and the "Elro" received from Bath Iron Works in 1985. These 4 vessels will be retired from active duty in the US in 2015. "Curts "and" Carr "were decommissioned in 2013. In 2013 the proposals to transfer similar boats to Pakistan and Thailand apparently failed for political reasons. It is not yet known whether the ships to be assigned through the program of military surplus EDA (Excess Defense Articles) include current carrying weapons. The units in service still retain the protection system Mk 15 Phalanx Block upcoming 1B, artillery piece 76/62 mm Mk 75 torpedo launchers Mk32 Mk 46 and Mk 50, shipbuilding remotely controlled weapon station armed with Mk 38 an automatic piece of 25 mm, and Mk 36 launchers SRBOC. All frigates in service of the Navy of the United States had their systems Mk 13 Mod 4 launch SAMs SM 1 and anti-ship RGM-84 Harpoon replaced by the weapons station Mk 38. As a condition for the transfer of ships, shares of repair and maintenance will necessarily be undertaken by a shipyard in the United States. In both Mexico and Taiwan, the incorporation of these units surface combatants increase deterrence, as they are fully trained to intervene effectively in coastal and ocean areas, both conventional and asymmetric missions. It also estimates that may happen in the future by a modernization program intended to replace some of its sensors and possibly include the integration of new weapons, requiring only a significant investment by the two countries. The design of the Oliver Hazard Perry frigates for antisubmarine warfare and incorporating anti-aircraft combat capability is limited currently operated by the navies of Australia, Bahrain, Egypt, Spain, Poland, Taiwan and Turkey. The Command of the Turkish Naval Forces today operates 8 frigates OHP types that make up the Classe Gabya. All were modernized with combat management system GENESIS (Gemi Entegre Sava?'ll Give Sistemi) developed by local public company Hava Elektronik Sanayi Havelsan-ve Ticaret. The "Giresun" (F491), "Gediz" (F495), "Gokova" (F496) and "Goksu" (F497) units now receive other significant improvements, including vertical launch system SAMs 8 Mk cells 41 VLS Raytheon and three-dimensional air surveillance radar and surface SMART-S Mk 2 of Thales Nederland, was also modernized director shot.
