Pyramid scheme - Egypt's ballistic missile test and launch facility

Relatively little is known about Egypt's ballistic missile programme. Yet, as one of the first developing countries to pursue a serious interest in such weapons, Egypt possesses the oldest functioning ballistic missile test and launch facility in the developing world.
First established in the late 1950s, the facility is located near Jabal Hamzah, approximately 62 km west-northwest of Cairo. Satellite imagery from several commercial sources gathered from between 2001 and 2009 has shed light on activities at the site, which is also known as Gebel Hamza, Jabal Hamzi, or Gebal Hamzi.
Imagery obtained by DigitalGlobe and GeoEye indicates that the original site has not only been expanded and upgraded over the past decade, but that significant construction has taken place on a new adjoining facility since 2007, including a new missile launch pad and horizontal processing building.
Most components of the north site Jabal Hamzah have existed for 40 years, but a new rocket component processing facility and a nearby bunkered compound have been built in the mid-2000s.
