It has been revealed that China North Industries Corporatin (NORINCO) has developed a new twin 35 mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (SPAAG) that integrates two currently fielded systems for greater operational flexibility.
The complete upper part of the NORINCO twin 35 mm towed anti-aircraft gun system has been mounted on the rear of a standard production forward control 6 x 6 cross-country truck chassis. The gun system has been deployed by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) for some years.
The fully enclosed forward control cab can accommodate the crew of the twin 35 mm mount. Four hydraulically operated stabilisers can be lowered to the ground, two each side, to provide a more stable firing platform.
A generator, which provides power to the mount while the main truck diesel engine is switched off, is located at the rear of the cab.
The maximum effective range of the twin 35 mm weapons is about 4,000 m, with a cyclic rate of fire of 550 rds/min. The types of ammunition fired include HEI (high-explosive incendiary) and HEI-T (high-explosive incendiary - tracer) plus associated training rounds. A quantity of ready-use 35 mm ammunition in clips is also carried. Image: Chinese twin 35 mm SPAAG based on a cross-country truck chassis with stabilisers raised in travelling configuration. (NORINCO)
