Finmeccanica has disclosed the award of several contracts from a Mediterranean nation for the supply of MU90 Impact lightweight torpedoes, torpedo launching systems, and torpedo countermeasures systems.
Although the company has not identified the customer, IHS Jane's understands that the orders have been placed on behalf of the Algerian Ministry of Defence for installation on board the first of the two MEKO A-200 frigates ordered from Germany's ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems.
It is understood that 26 MU90 Impact lightweight torpedoes are being supplied by Eurotorp (of which Finmeccanica subsidiary Whitehead Sistemi Subacquei [WASS] is a 50% shareholder). WASS will also supply two torpedo launcher systems and torpedo countermeasures
