Heavy goods and armoured vehicle manufacturer Navistar is becoming increasingly popular with the National Popular Army (ANP). The American group is negotiating a new contract worth more than $50 million for Maxxpro Dash mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles. In June 2017, Navistar concluded a first $8 million contract, which was followed in 2018 by a second. Altogether, 72 units were delivered, according to our information. The vehicles are being used above all by the 116th Régiment de Manoeuvre Opérationnelle (RMO), a special anti-terrorism force attached to the parachute corps. With the exception of the Humvee 4 x 4s supplied by AM General, this will be the first land forces equipment contract awarded by the ANP to an American supplier. The ANP continues to prefer Russian equipment and has also started to produce under licence Emirati Nimr armoured vehicles and German Fuchs armoured troop carriers (MC 926). But American suppliers are increasingly active. Raytheon in particular is set to deliver three business jets converted for intelligence use (MC 1337). © Copyright Maghreb Confidential.
