U.S. F-16 crashes over western Germany, but no injuries

An F-16 warplane belonging to the United States Air Force crashed over uninhabited territory in western Germany on Tuesday but the pilot escaped with minor injuries after ejecting, officials said.

An F16 warplane crashed over uninhabited territory near the western German city of Trier, public broadcaster SWR reported on Tuesday, adding that the pilot had been able to eject to safety.​

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany --

A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed at about 3 p.m. today near Zemmer, Germany,during a routine training sortie.
The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered with minor injuries. The aircraft was assigned to the 480th Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Wing, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany.
First responders are responding to the incident at this time.
A board of officers will investigate the accident. Additional details will be provided as they become available.
