Algeria has ordered 42 Mi-28N attack helicopters and six Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopters for its air force, ARMS-TASS reported on 28 February.
Citing an unidentified representative of Russia's military-industrial complex, the Russian military news agency added that the USD2.7 billion contract would also include upgrading 39 of Algeria's existing Mi-8 helicopters to the Mi-8AMTSh standard.
The Mi-8AMTSh has armoured crew positions, a chin-mounted electro-optic pod and can be armed with a variety of weapons.
The new helicopters will be made by Rostvertol, while the upgrades will be carried out by the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, which are both part of Russian Helicopters.
