Selex Galileo Eyes Second UAV Sale to Saudi Arabia
Finmeccanica unit Selex Galileo is seeking to sell a second batch of Falco UAVs to Saudi Arabia, the firm has revealed.
At a company press conference in London ahead of the Farnborough International Airshow, Finmeccanica CEO Giuseppe Orsi gave a presentation outlining the firm’s export aims for countries including Saudi Arabia. Among the list of products the firm would like to sell to the Gulf state was “Tactical UAV,” a reference to the Falco.
Saudi Arabia has already reportedly purchased the tactical medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV, suggesting that Selex Galileo now believes it can sell a second batch to the country.
Selex has declined to identify customers that have bought the Falco to date, but Saudia Arabia and Pakistan are known to be among them.
Last week, Selex announced it had won its fourth customer, bringing the worldwide operating fleet to 50 UAVs. The Falco had now been flying “with international customers in high threat area since 2007,” the firm said.
The firm also said it was due to undertake a first flight for its Falco Evo, which has a bigger wing and boom, granting longer endurance and a heavier payload capacity.
At the Finmeccanica presentation, the firm said it also saw opportunities to sell UAVs in Algeria, the UAE and Malaysia, suggesting countries that are reluctant to do business with the Israeli UAV industry may be turning to Selex for UAV needs.
At the press conference, Selex CEO Fabrizio Giulianini said the firm was open to UAV cooperation with Turkey, “considering the success of our UAV in the countries surrounding it.”
