Description: The Project 20380 Steregushchy is an stealthy corvette capable of countering enemy submarines, surface ships and airborne platforms autonomously or in cooperation with other naval forces. Besides, Project 20380 ship can perform protection of borders and exclusive economic zones (EEZs) missions. The ship was designed by Central Marine Design Bureau Almaz utilizing extensively stealth technologies and at least one ship has been built for the Russian Navy at Severnaya Verf (Northern Shipyard) in St. Petersburg. As of 2011, five of these ships have been constructed or are under construction for the Russian Navy.
The Project 20380 hull and superstructure are made of steel, advanced design materials and innovative manufacturing techniques. Its modular design allows for space-efficient integration of weapon systems and/or replacement by alternative weapon systems. Its propulsion system is based on Combined Diesel And GAS (CODAG) with two gas turbines 2x10,000 KW and two diesel engines 2x3,750 KW. The ship features an aft hangar and flight deck for a single Ka-27 ASW helicopter. The stealth design includes reduction of radar, acoustic, infrared, magnetic and visual signatures.
The Project 20380 corvette's artillery options include one AK-190 100 mm naval gun or alternatively one AK-176M 76.2mm naval gun, two 14.5mm machine guns and a DP-64 grenade launcher. The ship can be equipped with eight (2x4 canister x missile) Yakhont anti-ship missiles or alternatively 16 (4x4) Uran anti-ships missiles. Air defense is provided by 32 Igla surface-to-air (SAM) missiles and a single Kashtan anti-aircraft gun/missile weapon system equipped with eight SAMs. Anti-submarine weapons include two 533mm twin-tube torpedo launchers.
In June 2007, Rosoboronexport and Indonesian Navy signed an agreement for the construction of two Project 20382 vessels, of which the first one meant to be built in Spain, that would lead lead to a contract in the near future and thus the first export order for the ship. Project 20382 refers to export version of Project 20380. The Russian Navy ships are called Project 20381 and the current estimate is that about 10 to 12 (or up to 20) corvettes are needed to protect oil and gas transportation routes, especially in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.
