Algeria, cells of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat / Al Qaeda are active in the Islamic Maghreb, Soldiers of the Caliphate the Lands of Algeria, Almorabitun and DAESH. The Algerian authorities have an important security deployment, have reinforced their borders and successfully carry out counter-terrorism operations.
All these facts confirm that terrorism is still present in Algeria and that both the army and the different police forces remain vigilant and active, in order to eliminate this threat.
Terrorism is especially active in rural and mountainous areas in the Kabilia area (especially in Tizi-Ouzou, Blida, Bouira), Medea and Constantina.
The threat of kidnappings in the southern part of the country and in border areas is high. There are precedents for kidnappings of foreigners. The position of the Algerian government before kidnappings consists in not making concessions to the kidnappers and not paying bailouts.
The Tindouf area, where the refugee camps are located, is considered risky, so it should be avoided. Cooperators must also take into account the recommendations of the AECID and it is strongly recommended that they report their displacements to the camps, in advance, to the Spanish consulate general in Oran and the AECID Technical Cooperation Office (OTC) in Algiers. It is also recalled that the transport of goods of any kind to the camps from an Algerian port requires mandatory authorizations from these authorities.
The Tamanrasset area is exposed to the terrorist threat and its displacements are limited by Algerian forces and security forces. Consequently, it is recommended to avoid transfers to this area.
Regarding the area of Djanet (Illizi), the Algerian security forces and bodies protect the areas usually included in tourist packages. It is recommended that if you decide to move, it is done observing all safety measures and refraining from activities outside the usual tourist circuits.
