ISLAMABAD: Russian army’s commander-in-chief on Tuesday met with Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan at Air Headquarters in Islamabad, ARY News reported.

According to a statement issued by the PAF, matters of bilateral interests, bilateral cooperation and regional situation were came under discussion in the meeting.

A smartly-turned out contingent of PAF presented guard of honour to the Russian military chief upon arrival at the Air Headquarters.

Both the dignitaries underscored the need to increase bilateral defence ties and cooperation between the two countries.

On the occasion, the Russian army commander hailed the professional expertise of PAF and its role in war against terrorism.

Earlier on June 15, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said Russian President Viladimir Putin had appreciated Pakistan’s role and efforts for promoting regional peace and security.

While talking to media, he had said Prime Minister Imran Khan and Russian President Viladimir Putin had met briefly on sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek.

PM Khan had also took the Russian President into confidence on Kashmir’s situation, Qureshi had told reporters.

Army General Oleg Salyukov, Commander in Chief Russian Ground Forces called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) at GHQ, today.
During the meeting matters related to enhanced security / training cooperation and measures to further expand joint military ties between the two armies were discussed. COAS said that cooperation between both countries will not only help in improving peace and stability in the region, but will also usher economic prosperity. Pakistan does not believe in zero sum games but rather, integration and cooperation. The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan Army’s professionalism and achievements in war against terrorism. He said that the world should appreciate more what Pakistan has achieved. He also expressed the Russian desire to forge strong and broad based relations with Pakistan.
Earlier, on arrival at GHQ, Commander in Chief Russian Ground Forces laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary.
