DEFEXPO 2018: MADE IN INDIA ASSAULT RIFLES

MKU and EDIC Caracal signed an MoU for strategic co-operation for manufacture of the advanced CAR817AR rifles in India at Defexpo 2018 in Chennai.
The MoU also covers mutual cooperation in promoting MKU Electro Optics and Armour to the UAE forces by EDIC Caracal, a conglomerate and powerhouse of Emirates Defence Industrial Company (EDIC) with more than 16 assets spread across various defence industrial segments in UAE.
On the occasion, Neeraj Gupta, MD of MKU said: ‘We look forward to a strong association with EDIC Caracal. This association will further strengthen each other’s product range for India and the Middle East. The CAR817AR rifle is a rugged and versatile product and will meet all the requirements of our armed forces."
Hamad Salem Al Ameri, Chief Executive Officer of Caracal said: “Our respective governments already have strong relationships, We hope that this cooperation with MKU will become a starting point for a large strategic defence cooperation between both countries that opens the door for many more potential partnerships."
This will be the 2nd manufacturing base for Caracal in Asia. Its weapons are currently deployed with various forces in UAE. The CAR817AR passes all international standards and specifications and is proven to perform excellently even in the harsh conditions in Middle East.
MKU has recently announced its entry into weapons systems for soldiers and platforms. It is entering this arena with global majors like Thales, Caracal and Digital BitCaracal International is a company with the largest footprint across many continents like Africa, Europe, North America, South America and Asia. It is part of EDIC with more than 16 assets spread across various defence industrial segments in UAE.

• Overview
• Specifications

The CAR 817AR is a center-fire, gas operated, rotating bolt system assault rifle, chambered in 7.62 NATO / .308Win. The CAR 817AR is an assault rifle designed for the high-end use of law enforcement and military applications.

The weapon is available in semi-automatic and select fire configurations. The operating system is a short stroke pushrod gas piston system. The gas systems are controlled by an adjustable gas valve with two positions.

Position one is for normal operation.
Position two is for normal operation with a sound suppressor affixed and allows cycling of the action.

The weapon is available in various barrel lengths 12.5”, 14.5" and 16” Carbine Rifle.

• 817AR operates on the new short stroke piston system with two settings.
• Single or 2-tone Cerakote color finish available.
• Semi-automatic only and select fire models.
• Multiple barrel lengths 12.5”, 14.5" and 16”.
• Upper and lower tension device.

الINSAS عانى من عدة مشاكل بينما الCAR 817 AR استطاع النجاح في جميع المعايير العالمية وهو سلاح مبرهن ليؤدي بامتياز حتى الضروف القاسية في الشرق الاوسط..

معاناة الINSAS من المشاكل وبحث وزارة الدفاع الهندية عن بديل له

However it appeared that the INSAS has some reliability issues. This weapon tends to jam at high altitudes. Also its magazines crack due to cold weather and battlefield abuse. There was also a problem firing in 3-round burst mode - the weapon fired in full-auto instead. Some of the problems were eventually fixed on newer batches. However currently Indian armed forces are looking for a new weapon to replace the INSAS.
