Textron Systems Weapon & Sensor Systems has finalised development of the Fury lightweight air-launched precision-guided glide munition (Textron Systems)

Textron Systems Weapon & Sensor Systems has finalised development of the Fury lightweight air-launched precision-guided glide munition.

Marketed jointly by Textron and Thales UK for the global market, the munition is derived from technologies in the Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) family of precision weapons developed by Thales, and leverages a number of systems that are engineered and integrated by Textron Systems. Development of the entire system was completed in October 2016, but only confirmed by Textron Systems in May 2017.

Fury is a 27 in (68.6 cm)-long and 3 in (7.62 cm)-diameter compact glide munition intended primarily for carriage on medium-altitude unmanned air systems (UAS) and tactical UAS (TUAS) platforms (with potential application for light attack/intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft and Class IV UAS platforms). Weighing 12.7 lb (5.8 kg), the munition is fitted with a 4 lb (1.8 kg) combined effects warhead developed by Saab, and a Textron-developed operator selectable tri-mode - impact, height of burst, and delay - fuze. A Selective Availability Anti-spoofing Module-equipped GPS-aided inertial navigation mid-course guidance and semi-active laser (SAL) terminal guidance package enables the weapon to engage both stationary and moving targets at range to within one metre accuracy, and/or fly to specific target co-ordinates.

The Fury weapon system uses a common interface for rapid integration on multiple manned or unmanned platforms, and can be carried as a single-carried pylon mount or on a multicarriage rack that utilises already integrated rail mounts. A three-munition Fury loadout was shown on an Exelis modified Brimstone rail integrated on a Textron Aviation Beechcraft AT-6 'Wolverine' light attack aircraft at the Paris Air Show 2015.
