Kuwaiti RFI points to wider naval acquisition plan
A request for information (RFI) released on behalf of the Kuwaiti Navy suggests it is considering acquiring new fast attack craft (FAC) armed with MBDA Exocet MM40 anti-ship missiles.
Released by the US Federal Business Opportunities website on 10 January, the RFI said the US Naval Sea Systems Command is carrying out market research to determine if there are currently any designs that meet the Kuwaiti Navy's requirements for an 80-90 m "multi-mission or auxiliary vessel".
The vessel must be capable of refuelling and replenishing another ship at sea (although not when under way) and have a magazine capable of carrying 160 tonnes of ammunition that includes Exocet missiles, as well as 76 mm and 30 mm rounds.
