Patria Land Systems President Mika Kari has confirmed that the company has submitted its AMV 8x8 armoured vehicle for a Qatari requirement, Finland's Yle public service broadcaster reported on 10 August.
Kari did not say how many vehicles Qatar was interested in buying, but said it would be a "significant number" and that the deal would be worth hundreds of millions of euros. He added that several other companies were involved in the contest and it was unclear when Qatar would make a decision.
Yle reported that some of the AMVs would be armed with Patria's 120 mm NEMO turreted mortar system.
Qatar is modernising its armoured forces and is in the process of taking delivery of 62 Leopard 2A7+ tanks and 24 155 mm PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers.
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) recently told IHS Jane's that it has delivered 24 Leopards and 15 PzH 2000s to date. The remaining howitzers will be delivered by the end of this year, while Leopard deliveries are scheduled to continue until mid-2017.
