French fighter aircraft manufacturer Dassault is in discussions with the Indian government regarding the potential to open a Rafale production line in the country, according to reports published by The Economic Times on 27 November.
Although domestic Indian production is reportedly under discussion as part of the country's purchase of 36 of the fighter aircraft, the current contract negotiations focus on the supply of complete aircraft, which would be manufactured in France.
If agreed as part of its initial order from Dassault, the development of an Indian Rafale production line would form part of a large package of offsets and co-operation agreements with Indian industry.
